For clinical notes, radiograph findings and insurance decisions, human review is both a safety requirement and a legal one. Ask vendors exactly where the human step sits and whether it can be skipped.
From our data: Only 3 of 78 dedicated AI tools explicitly confirm human-in-the-loop review.
Where the human step belongs
AI radiograph findings are decision support and the dentist makes the diagnosis. AI-drafted clinical notes must be reviewed and signed by the provider. AI receptionists should hand off to staff for clinical questions, complaints and anything outside their script.
Questions for vendors
Can the review step be switched off? Is there a log of what the AI did and who approved it? What happens when the AI is uncertain?
