Net production is gross production minus contractual write-offs, in other words what the practice is entitled to collect. Dividing collections by net production shows how much of that money arrives. A ratio of 98% or higher is the target most often quoted by dental consultants.
Measure it over a rolling three months, because payments lag treatment. A falling ratio points to uncollected patient portions, unworked claims or adjustments entered incorrectly.
